Sony's Xperia M2 Aqua vs HTC's Butterfly 2 Comparison Review

Introduction

Introduced its first mid-range waterproof smartphone - the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua - with the tagline 'waterproof smartphone for everyone.' The company hasn't detailed the pricing as yet, but has said that the smartphone will be rolled-out in Autumn 2014 to several markets including Asia Pacific, Europe and Latin America.

HTC has launched the Butterfly 2 for South Asian markets, a smartphone that was previously launched in Japan as the J Butterfly for KDDI. The smartphone will be made available from September 2 in Taiwan, and will be gradually rolled-out to Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand thereafter. For now, pricing details have not been provided.



Hardware

Otherwise, the hardware hasn't changed much from the standard version of the Xperia M2. Powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, the Xperia M2 Aqua boasts the same 4.8-inch 540x960 qHD display and 8-megapixel rear camera. Like its sibling, this one also packs 8GB internal storage, 1GB RAM, and a front-facing 1.2-megapixel shooter.
It packs a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor coupled with 2GB RAM.The Butterfly 2 comes with 16GB and 32GB of inbuilt storage options, with expandable storage via microSD card (up to 128GB). It sports a duo-camera setup as seen on HTC One (M8) (Pictures | Review) with main sensor at 13-megapixel with dual-LED flash, while a 5-megapixel front-facing camera is also onboard.

Software

Switching over to software, the Android 4.4 KitKat-powered phone packs a number of Sony's apps and services. Present here are Battery STAMINA Mode, Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited, and Walkman and Movies. Sony has also loaded a variety of options and settings to help users get more from the camera.
It runs Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box and features a 5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display. Connectivity options on the Butterfly 2 smartphone include Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with DLNA, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB with MHL, GPRS/ EDGE, 3G and 4G LTE connectivity options.

Battery

Present here are Battery STAMINA Mode, Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited, and Walkman and Movies. Sony has also loaded a variety of options and settings to help users get more from the camera. The Butterfly 2 comes with a 2700mAh battery that's rated to deliver a talk time of up to 23.9 hours on 3G, and standby time of up to 643 hours. It will be available in Blue, Red, and White colour options, measures 145.4x70.2x9.99mm, and weighs 151 grams.
